The Government of India has recently responded to growing public concerns about the availability of fuel and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) following tensions in West Asia that have disrupted global energy supply chains. The conflict in the region, particularly around major shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, has raised fears about possible shortages and rising fuel prices in several countries, including India.
To address these concerns, officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas clarified that India currently has adequate stocks of crude oil and LPG and that there is no nationwide shortage of fuel. According to government statements, all oil refineries across the country are operating at maximum capacity, ensuring that petrol, diesel, and cooking gas continue to be supplied without major disruption. Officials also confirmed that petrol pumps and LPG distribution centers are functioning normally across the country.
Authorities explained that India relies heavily on imports from the Middle East for energy resources, including LPG and crude oil. Because of shipping disruptions and geopolitical tensions, deliveries from the region have slowed in recent weeks. However, the government has taken several precautionary steps to avoid a major supply crisis. These measures include increasing domestic LPG production at refineries and directing oil marketing companies to prioritize cooking gas supply for households.
